Introduction to Golf

Golf is a sport consisting of focus and uniform; although golf has never been looked upon and a fast pace and exciting sport, it has a lot more to offer then you may think. Much like writing or working out, golf can act as an outlet to relieve stress. It can be an escape from a hectic week or just a fun day out with your friends, co-workers or family. It is a game of patience and persistence starting from the moment the tee is pierced into the fresh green and the ball is soured into the sky. Golf is a relaxing journey through 9-18 challenging courses and 2,600-5,200 yards of beautifully green grass and fresh summer air. The objective of the game is to sink the ball in each hole of the 9-18 courses, with as little attempts or strokes as possible. This practice is also known as the Stroke Play. It is near to impossible to have a perfect game; so, on each course you will find a sign indicating the par. The par informs you of how many swings it should take to sink the ball based on the difficulty of the course. If you should go over the par, then your score will become negative. For example, if my par is 8 and I attempt 10 times, my score will be -2. The golfer with the highest score of that round gets the privilege of starting on the next hole.

To make the game run smoothly it is a good idea to understand these basics of golf. Another basic factor is to know how to dress on the green. Although there’s little to explain it is very important to remember for as some golf courses won’t let you in without the proper outfit. Men should wear slacks, a collared shirt of any color, and golf shoes with spikes on the bottom to add stability. Women should wear knee length skirts, a collared shirt of any color, and spiked golf shoes. Golf hats and golf gloves are also a part of the attire, usually not required. It is important to respect your property, the green and other player’s. Bring your own golf balls and remember what brand they are. If you wish to mark the ball instead of relying on the brand, you may do so as well. This will help you indicate where your ball has landed and will help the game have a consistent flow.
